Apple has recently made available iOS 17.1 Beta 3, just one week after the roll-out of iOS 17.1 Beta 2. Those who have registered for Apple’s Developer program and are qualified to get beta updates will have access to the latest update. This won’t be accessible to the remaining users until the stable version becomes widely available, which is expected to take place by the end of the month. The Action Button now has an important feature that will stop it from accidentally activating while in a pocket or bag thanks to the Beta 3 update. A major fix has also been made to the Wallet app.
iOS 17.1 Beta 3 is now available
With the iOS 17.1 Beta 3 update, some particular actions will no longer be performed while the iPhone is in a pocket or bag. Due to many complaints from customers that the Action Button would unintentionally turn on the Camera or the Flashlight, which might unexpectedly drain the battery, this new feature change has been added. As long as the iPhone is not in plain view, the Action Button will not activate the Camera, Flashlight, Voice Memo, Focus, or Magnifier features.
Users can still use shortcuts and other functionalities while in the pocket, but not the ones indicated above. Unexpectedly, the Action Button needs to be pressed for quite a while in order to activate a feature, but it still worked. It should be noted that although this function stops actions started by the Action Button, they can still be activated independently when the device is in the pocket.
Additionally, the built-in Wallet app has been updated. It was discovered during testing of iOS 17.1 Beta 1 and Beta 2 that the Wallet app occasionally started to crash, creating problems at crucial times. The problem has now been resolved.
Apple has also incorporated a new function wherein when an iPhone 12 model is put away, the allowable power for the modem is no longer increased. To meet with French SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) testing regulations, this is being done. Due to France’s unique regulatory framework, this particular adjustment will only apply to iPhone 12 models that are sold there.
Users should only notice a slight decrease in reception quality when the smartphone is not in use.
