Audio and video calls are now available on Elon Musk’s social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
Elon Musk posted a screenshot of the new feature along with instructions on how to activate it in the settings. The post was titled “Early version of video and audio calling on X.”
When activating the app, a number of X users reportedly received a notification saying, “Audio and video calls are here!” according to a story.
The voice and video calling feature on the platform has not yet been formally launched by X. But the business appeared to test it, posting a mysterious message that said, “Ready for it…?” shortly before the feature began to show, according to the study.
The screen grab allows users to make audio and voice calls to those they “follow” on the platform, all verified users, and those in their contact book.
According to Elon Musk’s August statement, X users will be able to make audio and video chats using the platform without having their phone numbers.
X will act as a “effective global address book” for the new abilities, according to Musk, who paid $44 billion to acquire Twitter last year. Users will be able to make calls through X on iOS, Android, Macs, and PCs.
Musk removed Twitter’s iconic blue bird logo and made a number of other changes after purchasing the social media platform, such as allowing users who had previously been banned to return and eliminating the option to block accounts.
A $1 annual membership fee for new accounts on the web that wish to post or communicate with other users was introduced by X earlier this month. The company claims that this move could help cut down on automated bot accounts, spam, and service manipulation.
In a blog post on Tuesday, X stated that the “Not a Bot” test had been launched in the Philippines and New Zealand. Unpaid fees prevent new users from using the site’s features, such as posting, like, commenting, and bookmarking.
According to the blog post, “This will evaluate a potentially powerful measure to help us combat bots and spammers on X while balancing platform accessibility with the small fee amount.”
The site stated, “Existing users are not affected within this test.” Following the announcement, Musk wrote on X, “Read for free, but $1/year to write.”
