What date is the Ryder Cup?
The dates of the upcoming edition are set for September 26–28, 2025.
The biennial competition, which was originally scheduled for 2020 but was postponed because to the Covid-19 pandemic, returned to even-numbered years in 2023.
Where is the Ryder Cup?
The Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York, will host the 2025 edition. The 2019 PGA Championship was held at this same location, which has previously played host to the US Open twice.
At the first tee of the public course, there is a warning sign that says, “The Black Course Is An Extremely Difficult Course Which We Recommend Only For Highly Skilled Golfers.”
Adare Manor in Ireland will host the competition in 2027, while Hazeltine National Golf Club—which held the 2016 championship—will host the 2029 competition. No venue has been announced for 2031.
Who are the current holders?
The defending champions, Europe, will go in following a dominant 16.5–11.5 win in Rome. With four points from five games, Rory McIlroy led the home team in scoring that week. Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton also had unbeaten weeks.
For the first time since the 1980s, Team USA won the Ryder Cup at home twice in a row in 2021, with their most recent win coming by a record-breaking margin.
Who is going to lead Team Europe?
Luke Donald, a former world No. 1 who guided Europe to win in Rome, will captain Europe for a second time. In addition to serving as vice captain for two Ryder Cups, Donald won all four of his tournaments.
This marks the first time since Bernard Gallacher captained the team for three straight Ryder Cups in the 1990s that someone has captained the team for back-to-back championships.
Who will lead the USA team as captain?
The 2025 captain of Team USA has not yet been announced by the PGA of America, but an announcement is expected in the upcoming months.
Having served as vice captain for the USA’s 2016 victory and playing captain for their 2019 Presidents Cup victory, Tiger Woods is presently the favourite for the position. Another contender is Stewart Cink, a five-time Ryder Cup competitor who will serve as vice captain in 2023.
Former vice captain and four-time Ryder Cup player Matt Kuchar is another option. Zach Johnson, who served as captain in Rome, would be the first American player to captain in successive Ryder Cups since Ben Hogan in 1949.
How much does home advantage count?
The last two times the Ryder Cup has been played in America, Team USA has won handily, while Europe has won the last seven home editions. A winning margin of five points or more has also occurred in the previous five editions.
The last time either team won on the road was in 2012, when Europe pulled off a stunning comeback to win the “Miracle at Medinah.” McIlroy hopes to win again on American soil in 2025.
Can LIV players be featured and how can players qualify?
The 2023 edition will include six captains picks and six automatic qualifiers, as both sides have decided. The qualifying criteria has not yet been disclosed.
After a year-long qualification campaign, Team Europe had three qualifiers from the European Points List and three eligible players from the World Points List, while the top six players on the USA Ryder Cup points list were automatically qualified.
To be able to play for Team Europe, players must be DP World Tour members as of right now, which would exclude any players who joined the LIV Golf League, which is supported by Saudi Arabia.
Who could play for Europe?
With Viktor Hovland and Rahm probably playing major roles for Team Europe again, McIlroy is a lock to play in the Ryder Cup for the eighth time in a row.
Ludvig Åberg’s performance in his debut in 2023 was amazing, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see him play, and players like Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick, Jon Rahm, Hatton, and Tommy Fleetwood will be hoping to return.
What team golf is there before then?
When Jim Furyk leads Team USA against Mike Weir’s International Team in the Presidents Cup next September 26–29 at Royal Montreal Golf Club, they will have the opportunity to continue their winning streak. The US has only lost once in the previous 14 iterations of the biennial contest, won 12 of them.
The most recent Solheim Cup will also take place in 2019; it was previously held in even-numbered years to avoid conflict with the Ryder Cup. At Virginia’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, Suzann Pettersen will captain Team Europe against Stacy Lewis’s Team USA on September 13–15.
How will the next Ryder Cup be broadcast?
The Ryder Cup will remain hosted by Sky Sports, which will provide live coverage of all three days of the 2025 tournament. Use NOW to watch the LPGA Tour, DP World Tour, PGA Tour, and more.
