In Hollywood on Sunday, a Princess Diana outfit went up for sale, bringing in more than $1.1 million.
Jacques Azagury, a British-Moroccan fashion designer, sold a black and blue evening gown at Julien’s Auctions for a grand total of $1,143,000, the auction company reported.
Diana wore the outfit to at least two formal public times before her death in 1997.
According to the auction business, she wore it two times: once when she went on an official royal trip of Italy with Prince Charles in April 1985, and another time when she went to see the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra perform.
Diana’s passion of dance is shown in the long-sleeved dress, which has a royal blue ballerina skirt with a belt and bow and a black velvet bodice with blue metallic stars.
“The design is sweet and sophisticated, and the silver metallic paint on the velvet sparkles nicely alongside the embroidery to create a design reminiscent of a night’s sky,” the auction house stated.
According to the report, Sunday’s auction sale smashed the previous record for the most costly dress ever worn by Diana. A velvet gown by Victor Edelstein set the previous record when it sold for $604,800 in January.
Diana’s famous ‘black sheep’ jumpers, which came up for auction at Sotheby’s earlier this year, was predicted to bring in $80,000, but ended up fetching $1.1 million.
