Since 2012, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan have been married, and they often post pictures of their trips together on Instagram. The couple, who have two sons, recently opened up about their relationship in a heartfelt interview. Reflecting on their marriage, Kareena expressed how being with Saif has made her more responsible and grounded.
“Marriage has changed me for the better. We balance each other out. If he grounds me, I ground him. If I’m being a little crazy, he will always tell me and vice versa,” Kareena shared with The Week, as they gear up to celebrate their 12th anniversary this October.
Touching on the challenges posed by their dual acting careers, Kareena acknowledged the strain it can place on their relationship. “It is definitely tough,” she said to demonstrate this. After arriving home at 4:30 a.m., he went to sleep and was gone for a shoot when I left for work. I’m flying to Bangkok tomorrow, so we won’t see each other despite living in the same house. Balancing time is challenging. We have to sit down with the calendar to plan our days.”
Despite their busy schedules, the couple leans on each other for advice. Kareena humorously remarked, “I don’t know if he takes my advice.” She also admitted to being a tough critic of Saif’s films, though he hasn’t yet watched her latest movie, Crew. “He’s been shooting, but I have to see all his films,” she added with a laugh.
Kareena also talked about their frequent arguments over the air conditioning temperature. “We definitely fight over the AC temperature because Saif wants it at 16°C as he feels hot all the time. I prefer it at 20°C. He jokes that people have gotten divorced over this issue. So we compromise at 19°C. Every time my sister Karisma comes over for dinner, she slyly changes it to 25°C, and Saif is like, ‘God! Thank God I am married to Bebo, because at least she settles for 19°C,’” Kareena recounted.
Another common source of their disagreements is the lack of time together. “We mostly argue about not seeing each other enough. The time we miss spending together is more important than money. I just get into arguments with him sometimes because he allows Taimur stay up late,” she said.
