After much anticipation, JSW MG Motor India has officially revealed the launch date for its eagerly awaited electric crossover, the MG Windsor EV. This all-electric vehicle is set to debut in the Indian market on September 11, 2024, marking the third electric vehicle offering from the British automaker. The MG Windsor EV, which is based on the Wuling Cloud EV, is not an entirely new model but a rebadged version of the existing EV sold internationally, particularly in China. It has been tailored for the Indian market and will be positioned within the Rs 20 lakh segment of electric vehicles.
The design of the MG Windsor EV sets it apart as a unique crossover that blends the comfort of a sedan with the practicality of an SUV. Measuring 4,295 mm in length, it is slightly shorter than the MG ZS EV, yet it makes up for this with a width of 1,850 mm and a height of 1,652 mm, both of which are greater than the dimensions of the ZS EV. The vehicle’s wheelbase, at 2,700 mm, promises to offer ample space for passengers. The exterior is modern and futuristic, featuring LED light bars at both the front and rear, vertically stacked projector headlamps, and a charging port conveniently placed on the left front fender. The Windsor EV also boasts chunky alloy wheels, an integrated spoiler, and flush-fitting door handles, all of which add to its sleek appearance.
The interior of the MG Windsor EV continues the modern, futuristic theme with a minimalist layout. The cabin is equipped with a 15.6-inch freestanding central touchscreen infotainment system, paired with an 8.8-inch digital instrument display. The seats are upholstered in luxurious Italian bubble-style leatherette, and the front seats offer electric adjustment options. A notable characteristic of the Windsor EV is its ‘Sofa mode’ recline feature, which enables the rear seats to be reclined for enhanced comfort. Additional features include a powered tailgate, 360-degree cameras, wireless phone charging, a six-speaker audio system, connected car technology, ambient lighting, a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, and a panoramic sunroof.
Safety is a priority in the MG Windsor EV, with the vehicle expected to come equipped with four airbags as standard, along with electronic stability control (ESC), disc brakes on enhanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), hill hold assist, and all four wheels. The ADAS suite will include features such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and lane departure warning.
Under the hood, the MG Windsor EV is expected to feature a 50.6 kWh lithium ferro-phosphate (LFP) battery, similar to that in the Wuling Cloud EV. This battery is likely to be paired with a single electric motor that drives the front wheels, delivering 134 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. While these figures are slightly lower than those of the MG ZS EV, the Windsor EV is expected to offer a range of up to 460 kilometers on a single charge. Charging options will include a regular AC charger, which could take over seven hours for a full charge, and a DC fast charger, capable of bringing the battery to 80% capacity in just over 30 minutes.
