A new Premiere 7 and Premiere 9 are added to Samsung’s UST projector lineup

After showcasing them earlier at CES 2024, Samsung has officially unveiled its new ultra short throw (UST) 4K projectors, the Premiere 7 and Premiere 9. These latest additions are designed to deliver improved picture quality over the previous LSP9T and LSP7T models, with a particular focus on enhancing brightness and color accuracy. Samsung’s primary objective with these new projectors is to offer consumers a truly “cinematic experience.”

Both models are equipped with smart TV capabilities via Samsung’s Tizen OS, providing access to a variety of streaming platforms like Samsung TV Plus, Netflix, and YouTube. Additionally, the newly integrated Samsung Gaming Hub brings over 3,000 titles from Xbox and other platforms, eliminating the need for a console. Vision Booster, a tool that automatically modifies color and contrast depending on varying lighting conditions, is supported by both Premiere 7 and Premiere 9.

The Premiere 7 emerges as a strong contender in the mid-range UST market, boasting 2,500 ISO lumens of brightness and full coverage of the DCI-P3 HDR standard. This should allow it to deliver accurate colors and an extended dynamic range, though many projectors struggle to meet the demanding brightness levels required for optimal HDR performance. In terms of HDR support, the Premiere 7 offers HDR10, though it lacks Dolby Vision compatibility, a feature available in competing models like the Formovie Theater. For audio, it includes Dolby Atmos technology with 30W 2.2-channel speakers.

On the other hand, the Premiere 9 is positioned just below Samsung’s high-end Premiere 8K UST projector, which was also introduced at CES. Featuring a triple laser engine, the Premiere 9 boosts brightness to 3,450 ISO lumens—less than the Premiere 8K’s 4,000 lumens but still higher than most 4K UST projectors, with Epson’s EpiqVision Ultra LS800W 4K 3LCD projector being a notable exception at 4,000 ISO lumens. The Premiere 9 also includes Samsung’s HDR10+ technology, a competitor to Dolby Vision, and boasts an impressive 154 percent DCI-P3 color accuracy, promising a visually striking picture. It also features 40W speakers with Dolby Atmos in a 2.2.2 channel up-firing setup.

Samsung’s projectors are known for their premium pricing, and the new models continue that trend. The Premiere 7 is priced at $2,999, while the Premiere 9 comes in at $5,999. Both models are now available for purchase through Samsung’s website and selected retailers.
