Samsung’s flagship foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6, are now among the best available. However, as 2025 approaches, a tri-fold model and a less expensive Flip model might be released.
ZDNet Korea has released a report that supports this claim (via popular tipster @Jukanlosreve, who has a somewhat solid track record for mobile predictions). Samsung’s supply chain strategies for foldable displays over the coming months are examined in detail in this paper.
According to the story, there has been “sluggish demand” for Samsung’s 2024 foldables, albeit the business is still said to have sold about 7-8 million Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 units. However, this is based in part on Google Translate.
According to the report’s conclusion, Samsung is “discussing” releasing a tri-fold foldable device in 2025 that is comparable to the Huawei Mate XT, in addition to a “popular” (more reasonably priced) version of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 that we already anticipate seeing.
Keep in mind that @Jukanlosreve has some further feedback that is worth adding here. It suggests that the “budget” Galaxy Z Flip is actually a “enhanced” Galaxy Z Flip, possibly more of a special edition release.
The same source also cites another South Korean story that claims there are no plans for a less expensive, “popular” Samsung foldable. For now, it appears to be a matter of waiting and seeing.
However know that Samsung recently released the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition phone, which is currently only available in South Korea. There have also been rumors that a Flip model comparable to this one may soon be released.
