A few years have passed since Apple initially released the AirTag, and although many customers have found the tracker to be a helpful daily tool, there have also been concerns about abuses of the gadget, including a class-action lawsuit, as tales of AirTag stalking have surfaced.
According to reports, Apple is incorporating certain privacy enhancements into its next AirTag in light of all of this. In this week’s Power On email, Mark Gurman says that it will be more tamper-proof.
Gurman writes that the second-generation AirTag, which is anticipated to be introduced in the middle of next year, would be designed to make removing the speaker more challenging. Although Apple has included mechanisms to prevent unwanted tracking, such as sound alarms that notify users when an unfamiliar AirTag is nearby, removing the speaker is still a somewhat simple way to reduce its visibility.
According to Gurman, the new AirTag will also feature improvements to the inbuilt wireless chip and range in addition to privacy adjustments. However, it shouldn’t appear all that different from the AirTag that we’re accustomed to.
