It took him longer than expected to record 100 career sacks, but Myles Garrett is now the youngest player ever to reach that milestone. The Browns edge rusher turns 29 next week.
In the three games leading up to Sunday, he had recorded just one sack, giving him a sack total of 99.5. His sack of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow late in the first half on Sunday finally brought him over the 100 mark.
“It makes my dad [Lawrence] proud,” Garrett said, via Dan Labbe of cleveland.com. “That was for daddy, so that’s what it means to me. It doesn’t mean much in a loss, but I get to see him smile and get that accomplishment. He’s been telling me to do it for the last three weeks, so happy to get that one for him.”
Garrett reached the milestone in 115 games, which tied him with Bruce Smith and Lawrence Taylor as the fourth-fastest in NFL history. With at least 100 sacks in his first eight seasons, he has joined Reggie White (124), DeMarcus Ware (111), Jared Allen (105) and T.J. Watt (104).
The only two players with at least 12 sacks in five straight seasons are Lawrence and Garrett.
“Didn’t know about all that,” Garrett said. “That’s great company to be with. Definitely one of the guys I looked up to, as an athlete, as a football player coming up along my way, and still watch clips and watch his tenacity against the edge and all that.”
