According to a post in Hyatt’s website, Apple is partnering with Hyatt to allow some hotel customers to save their room keys in their Apple Wallets. Instead of digging through your pockets for your room key, you’ll be able to access your room and any other areas of the hotel that require a key using your iPhone or Apple Watch.
This service is now only available in six Hyatt hotels in the United States, but Hyatt believes it will soon be available in all of its hotels worldwide. But for now, the partnering hotels include: Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, Hyatt Centric Key West Resort and Spa, Hyatt House Chicago / West Loop-Fulton Market, Hyatt House Dallas / Richardson, Hyatt Place Fremont / Silicon Valley, and Hyatt Regency Long Beach.
Keep in mind that to use the feature, your iPhone must be running iOS 15 or later, and your Apple Watch must be running watchOS 8 or later. The World of Hyatt app allows you to add your room key to your Apple Wallet once you’ve finished your reservation, according to Hyatt. Your room number will be displayed on the key, and it will only turn on when your room is ready for check-in. If you need to change anything in your room, you can do it using the app, and your key will be automatically updated. Once you’ve checked out, your key will be deactivated.
This feature, along with Apple’s digital ID feature, was previewed at WWDC 2021. Once available, users in participating states will be able to keep their identification cards digitally in their Apple Wallets. Although Arizona and Georgia were expected to be the first states to allow individuals to save their IDs on their iPhones, the program’s implementation has been postponed until 2022.
