The 94th Academy Awards nominees were released on Tuesday, and they included films from a wide range of genres.
The 94th Academy Awards candidates were announced Tuesday morning, with The Power of the Dog leading the pack.
The film received 12 nominations, including best picture, best director for Jane Campion, and actor nominations for Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
Dune comes in second with 10 nominations, including best picture, but is absent from the directing and acting categories.
Steven Spielberg, a fellow director nominee, also set a new milestone. Spielberg has now produced 11 films nominated for best picture, a new record for the Oscars, as producer of “West Side Story,” which had a total of seven nominations.
Denzel Washington’s eighth Oscar nomination for his portrayal in “The Tragedy of Macbeth” added to his record of being the most nominated Black actor. (Producing was one of his nominations.)
Nominees were announced for all 23 categories, including best film, best director, and acting categories, as well as crafts categories such as best sound, best production design, best makeup and hairstyling, and best visual effects. The event was hosted by Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross.
The Academy Awards event, which will take place on Sunday, March 27th, has yet to be assigned a host. The show will air live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
