Americans have a particular place in their hearts for the Fourth of July. The United States was founded 246 years ago on this day in this year. It serves as a reminder of the thirteen American colonies’ liberation from British authority and is a significant federal holiday in the United States.
The adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress in the United States during the 18th century is when the Fourth of July holiday first became a tradition.
By a vote of the Continental Congress on July 2, 1776, twelve of the thirteen American colonies formally chose to secede from Great Britain and requested independence. All thirteen American colonies also voted in favour of adopting the Declaration of Independence, which they used to declare their independence from the British throne, just two days after this petition. In Virginia’s Jamestown, the British Empire established its first established American colony in 1607.
Before to 1776, all 13 colonies were governed by British law and were had to pay exorbitant import taxes on items like sugar, coffee, tea, and alcohol. This situation sparked growing discontent with the British crown, which resulted in this historic event.
As a result, the Fourth of July holiday honours the US founding fathers’ signing of the American Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson, a well-known statesman and diplomat, and Benjamin Franklin, a political philosopher, were two among the numerous figures who opposed British control and declared the North American colonies to be free states.
The United States of America was then founded as a result of this. Parades and barbecues are held as part of American Independence Day celebrations. Red, white, and blue, the colours of the American flag, are worn as clothing and painted on people.
Additionally, fireworks are regarded as being the most important aspect of the Independence Day celebration in US history and culture.
