A third season of The Wheel of Time, a fantasy series on Amazon Prime Video based on Robert Jordan’s books, has been ordered.
Amazon also offered a behind-the-scenes peek at the upcoming Season 2 during the The Wheel of Time: Origins panel at San Diego Comic-Con, though this has not yet been given a release date.
Rafe Judkins, executive producer and showrunner of The Wheel of Time, “I’m so thrilled that we’ll be making a third season of The Wheel of Time,” “The Shadow Rising has always been my favourite book in the series, so being able to bring it to television and introduce new audiences to the stories that made me fall in love with these books in the first place is such an honour, and something I’ve been working toward since I first pitched the show years and years ago .”
The Wheel of Time, which is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television and is written by Chuck and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. writer Rafe Judkins, is set in a vast, epic world where magic exists but only women can use it.
As Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), a member of the highly potent all-female Aes Sedai, arrives in the little village of Two Rivers, the story follows her. With five young men and women, one of whom is said to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity, she sets off on a perilous, globe-spanning voyage from there.
Additionally, The Wheel of Time includes Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Josha Stradowski as Rand al’Thor, Madeleine Madden as Egwene al’Vere, Daniel Henney as Lan Mandragoran, Zo Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara, and Madeline Madden as Egwene al’Vere.
The Wheel of Time, a television series based on Robert Jordan’s books, is executive produced by Rafe Judkins, Larry Mondragon, Rick Selvage, Mike Weber, Ted Field, Darren Lemke, and Marigo Kehoe. Harriet McDougal and Brandon Sanderson will act as consulting producers in addition to Rosamund Pike’s role as producer.
The fourth book in the Wheel of Time series is The Shadow Rising, and while it may seem like a bit of a jump, the first season did use some of the third book to complement the first.
Vernon Sanders, Amazon Studio’s head of global television, continued, “We couldn’t be happier to give fans more reasons to be excited about the show and bring more The Wheel of Time to our customers worldwide.”
Despite the fact that Season 2 has not yet been released, the Season 3 announcement feels a touch preemptive, Amazon did the same thing in the past when it announced a second season before the first was even released. However, it has made it apparent that it is anxious to delve further into the universe of The Wheel of Time by stating that it intends to eventually finish all 14 volumes and the prequel.
