“Stree 2,” directed by Amar Kaushik, has been a strong contender at the box office since its release on August 15. According to Sacnilk.com, the horror-comedy has already surpassed ₹308 crore in earnings, marking an impressive performance.
The film kicked off with ₹8.5 crore from paid premieres held the day before its official release. On its first day, Thursday, it pulled in ₹51.8 crore, signaling a strong start. Friday saw a slight dip with collections of ₹31.4 crore, but the numbers surged again on Saturday with ₹43.85 crore. The peak came on Sunday, when the movie amassed a hefty ₹55.9 crore. Even as the week progressed, “Stree 2” managed to maintain significant momentum, bringing in ₹38.1 crore on Monday, despite being a weekday. The earnings then saw a gradual decline, with ₹25.8 crore on Tuesday and ₹19 crore on Wednesday. By the end of its first week, the film had accumulated ₹291.65 crore, despite the Thursday collection dipping to ₹16.8 crore.
On the following Friday, “Stree 2” continued its success, adding an estimated ₹16.50 crore to its total, bringing the nine-day collection in India to approximately ₹308.15 crore. The film has comfortably crossed the ₹300 crore mark within just over a week of its release.
The film’s plot revolves around the people of Chanderi, who are haunted by an evil entity known as Sarkata. They enlist the help of Stree to confront this malevolent force. Niren Bhatt, the writer of “Stree 2,” spoke to PTI about the film’s antagonist, Sarkata, explaining that while some audiences might feel the balance of horror and humor varies, the ghosts in the film represent societal fallacies rather than literal spirits. He elaborated that Sarkata embodies the most twisted form of patriarchy, while Stree symbolizes matriarchy, and Bhediya serves as the protector of the forests.
The cast of “Stree 2” includes Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi, with Akshay Kumar making a special appearance. Varun Dhawan also reprises his role as Bhediya in the film.
