Technically, the Apple Watch’s processor is upgraded each year. The Apple S8 processor found in the Apple Watch Series 8 is larger than the S7 SoC found in the Series 7 or the S6 found in the Series 6.
However, none of those processors has really given much via an exhibition update; they all appear to utilize an indistinguishable processor with a computer chip engineering in light of the Macintosh 13 (probably the little, energy-productive centers) and a 7 nm fabricating process from TSMC.
Bloomberg’s report says that this year will be different. He says that the new processor in the next-generation chip—likely the Apple S9—will be based on the same architecture as the A15 chip, which is Apple’s more recent model. Additionally, if the CPU is being replaced, Apple may take advantage of the opportunity to improve the manufacturing process, which could result in an increase in speed as well as an improvement in battery life and other features.
The most interesting thing of the next-generation Apple Watch’s hardware would probably be a new chip; Gurman doesn’t expect significant plan changes for the watch this year, and we can most likely anticipate that it should look about equivalent to each Apple Watch presented since 2018’s Series 4 plan expanded the screen sizes. However, Gurman anticipates that the watchOS software will undergo a significant upgrade this year, with a new user interface centered on widgets similar to those found in iOS.
A newer watchOS should run equally well on watch hardware from multiple generations rather than requiring the most recent chip to shine because the processor has remained relatively unchanged for so long. It’s too soon to tell whether the watchOS 10 update will drop any more established models; The Apple Watch Series 3 was saved by watchOS 9, but not before software updates became a major pain.
