Amazon on Monday unveiled a new $79 Echo Spot alarm clock with a redesign and improved audio quality.
The company added a display where users can see the time, weather and the currently playing song. Amazon also added a better speaker to the front of the device, which it says delivers clearer audio and deeper bass.
This is the first upgrade to the device since Amazon introduced the Echo Spot in 2017. The previous version, which cost $129 on Amazon, also had a semicircular design but featured a full-size display and camera.
Amazon said members of its $139-a-year Prime program can buy the new Echo Spot for $44.99 through July 17, when the company will hold its Prime Day mega sale.
Amazon is updating the Echo Spot as it plans to revamp Alexa, the voice assistant built into its smart speakers, CNBC previously reported. The company typically makes many announcements about its Echo and Alexa product lines at its fall event, usually held in September.
