The lightweight version of the full-featured OS, Android Go, has officially reached 200 million daily users. Android Go was initially released in 2017, with the goal of providing a smoother Android experience for users on devices with 2GB of RAM or less.
Now, Google has announced that certain of these low-cost devices will receive an update to Android 12 (Go edition), bringing a slew of new features to more devices than the conventional Android 12.
Apps will open up to 30% faster and with smoother animation on phones running Android 12 (Go edition). Apps will open instantly, according to Google, removing the brief gap when you could see a blank screen.
Other features, like as the privacy dashboard, are already available in Android 12’s standard version, allowing you to check and manage your app permissions from a single location. You may also be familiar with the on-screen translation tool, automated app hibernation to save battery life, and the useful function that allows you to share an app with neighbouring devices, preventing other users from having to download it using data.
At this time, it’s unknown which devices will receive the Android 12 (Go edition) upgrade or when it will be released. Google says it will launch in 2022, although no exact date has been set.
