Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has had a very impressive WNBA season so far, breaking records and grabbing headlines. Now, she has added a historic double-double to her resume.
Despite an 86-68 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, August 18, the 22-year-old Reese still managed to make WNBA history.
According to Sports Illustrated, Reese recorded her fourth consecutive double-double in the game, officially becoming the fastest player in league history to reach 20 double-doubles, a feat she accomplished in just 27 games. According to sources, Reese is averaging 13.6 points and 12.3 rebounds while shooting 39.8 percent from the field so far this season.
Since being selected by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft in April, the former LSU star has had a record-breaking season so far. The standout freshman became the first rookie in league history to record a triple-double.
In July, it was announced that Reese was the latest WNBA star to join the burgeoning 3-on-3 basketball league.
In an official announcement on Instagram on July 24, the Unrivaled Basketball League announced Reese had joined the league. “Barbie dolls are unmatched,” read the caption of Unrivaled and Reese’s joint post. “10/30”
According to Sports Illustrated, Reese will be the 10th WNBA player to join the new league founded by teammates Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart.
Currently, the league includes WNBA players Arike Ogunbowale, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Rhyne Howard, Kahlea Cooper and Jackie Young, with 20 more players expected to be added in the coming months.
