The Information reported on Friday, citing four individuals who worked on the headset, that Apple Inc. (AAPL.O) is developing software to assist users of its upcoming mixed-reality (MR) headset in building their own augmented reality applications.
A Bloomberg News report said that the company was in talks to make virtual reality content for its MR headset with about half a dozen media partners, including Walt Disney Co. (DIS.N).
One of three types of extended reality technologies frequently associated with the metaverse is mixed reality. The wearer of an MR headset might be able to use a real object to elicit a response in the virtual world.
A separate Bloomberg News report states that the MR headset produced by Apple is expected to go on sale at this year’s spring event and will set you back approximately $3,000.
That would be twice as much as the $1,500 Quest Pro virtual and mixed reality headset from Meta Platforms Inc. (META.O), which was released at the end of last year.
