Apple has released Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Camera for the iPad 2, the company announced on Thursday. Both apps were previously announced at the company’s iPad event in May. Apple also released an update to Final Cut Pro for Mac.
The iPad version has been updated with features designed to take advantage of the new iPad Pro with the M4 chip. According to Apple, the new chip enables up to 2x faster rendering compared to the M1 and supports up to 4x more ProRes RAW streams.
Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 introduces a new “Live Multicam” feature that lets users wirelessly connect and preview up to four cameras simultaneously. Users can see each camera from a director’s perspective and manually control settings using the new Final Cut Camera app. A new companion app lets users connect multiple iPhones or iPads. Final Cut Pro automatically streams and syncs all live multicam angles, allowing for a seamless transition from production to editing.
Final Cut Camera supports Live Multicam and can also be used as a standalone recording app on iPhone and iPad. Users can adjust settings such as manual focus, shutter speed, ISO, focus peaking, and grid overlay.
Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 also includes support for external projects, a frequently requested feature. Users can now create new projects or open existing projects without taking up internal storage space.
As for Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8, users will have access to new AI features. New Light and Color Enhance features automatically adjust video to correct color, and a new Soft Slow Motion feature blends video images to improve movement.
Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 are available now as free updates for existing users. For new users, Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 is available for $4.99 per month or $49 per year. Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 is available from the Mac App Store for $299.99.
