Every Mac, iPhone, and iPad comes pre-installed with Safari, Apple’s web browser. Despite this, Microsoft Edge took over second place in the list of the most popular web browsers worldwide last year. However, brand-new data indicate that Apple’s web browser has regained second place in the global ranking of the most used desktop web browsers, surpassing Edge once more.
Ranking of the most widely used desktop web browsers Safari is once again the second most widely used web browser worldwide, according to Statcounter, which measures the popularity of web browsers based on data collected from multiple websites. More specifically, 11.87 percent of desktop users use Safari on a regular basis, and Microsoft Edge now comes in third with 11.
Despite its 66.13% market share, Google Chrome is still the most widely used desktop web browser in the world. Safari grew by more than 2% in comparison to Statcounter data from 2022, whereas Microsoft Edge only grew by 1%. On the other hand, Google Chrome maintained almost the same percentage as last year, indicating that the browser is not significantly affected by its rivals.
Here is the full ranking below:
Chrome by Google: 66.13%
Safari: 11.87%
Microsoft Edge: 11%
Firefox: 5.65%
Opera:3.09%
Internet Explorer: 0.55%
Safari 16 and its rivals
With macOS Ventura, Apple has improved Safari with some fantastic new features. Web push notifications, Shared Tab Group, strong password editing, improved CSS, and Passkeys, a new way to authenticate with Touch ID without creating a traditional password, are all included in this.
However, Safari is still behind its rivals when it comes to supporting some of the most recent web standards, leading some individuals to download alternative web browsers.
On the other hand, Microsoft has been betting on AI-based features to get more people to use the Edge web browser. The company has integrated ChatGPT and the well-known image generator DALLE with Bing Search. At WWDC 2023 in June, Apple is expected to make significant changes to Safari.
