Beyoncé has revealed a brand-new concert movie based on her enormous tour from this year for her album Renaissance in 2022.
In the trailer for Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé, the 42-year-old musician claims, “When I am performing, I am nothing but free,” “My goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone is free and no one is judged.”
Malcolm Jack, a reviewer for the Guardian, referred to the tour as “sheer, unfettered, mildly chaotic indulgence” in a review of the first night in Stockholm in May. He added that Beyoncé was “By rewiring dance music past in a sensory overload of truly stunning ambition and stamina, Beyoncé is writing some history of her own.” In New Orleans, the 57-date tour recently reached an end.
The teaser film offers glimpses into the making-of by showcasing Beyoncé rehearsing with her oldest child, Blue Ivy, 11, who has been dancing on the tour, as well as exchanges with her husband Jay-Z and their twins Rumi and Sir. According to sources, the movie will feature highlights from the world tour, documentary material on how the album and tour were created, and the eagerly anticipated music videos for the rumoured accompanying visual album.
Similar to Taylor Swift’s upcoming Eras tour movie, the Renaissance movie will sidestep conventional distributors by being distributed directly through the AMC Theatres chain in the US. Beyoncé will collect more than 50% of the film’s box office receipts, according to report, just like Swift did with her self-financed movie.
Beyoncé has previously released several concert films, most notably the Netflix documentary Homecoming, which documented the making of her staggering Coachella headline performance in 2018. It is the most recent in a line of popular music stars, like Lewis Capaldi and Billie Eilish, who have made films about their own careers.
