Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm), an Oscar contender, has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will play a crucial role in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, according to reports.
The anticipated threequel, starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, Karen Gillan, Elizabeth Debicki, Will Poulter, and Chuk Iwuji, recently concluded filming. Daniela Melchior, the breakout star of The Suicide Squad, has also joined the cast, as we reported last week.
Recently, director James Gunn suggested the presence of a “unannounced actor” in the film. We realise that person isn’t Bakalova. Her role is a closely guarded secret.
While the plot of the superhero film has remained a mystery, previous chapters have featured half-human, half-alien Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Pratt), and his gang of intergalactic criminals as they fought off different dangers to their cosmos. Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy series will conclude with Vol. 3.
In November of 2021, filming on the Marvel film began. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith are the executive producers. Co-producers are David J. Grant and Lars P. Winther.
The first two films in the franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide. The release date for Vol. 3 is set for May 5, 2023.
Bakalova, a rising Bulgarian actress, made her breakthrough when Sacha Baron Cohen hired her as his daughter in the Borat sequel film. She received positive feedback and multiple awards for the role, including an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
A24’s Bodies Bodies Bodies, which received positive reviews at SXSW, and The Honeymoon, on which she is also a producer, are two upcoming projects. Judd Apatow’s pandemic film The Bubble, as well as Women Do Cry, Last Call, Transgression, and The Father, are among her past credits.
CAA, Brookside Artist Management, and Insight Management & Production represent Bakalova.
