Brightness and contrast are increased with Hisense’s new laser TV projector

Hisense has taken the stage at CES 2025 to unveil its latest addition to the L9 series of laser TVs: the L9Q. This innovative system isn’t a conventional television but rather an ultra-short-throw laser projector paired with a specialized screen, offering an immersive cinematic experience at home. The L9Q stands out with its impressive range of screen sizes, available in five options from 100 inches to a massive 150 inches. One of its key advancements is the introduction of auto screen alignment, a first for the L9 series, making it easier than ever to adjust the projection to suit different screen sizes seamlessly.

At the heart of the L9Q is Hisense’s proprietary triple-laser light engine, a cutting-edge technology that enhances its ability to deliver vibrant, lifelike visuals. This system achieves an extraordinary 110 percent coverage of the BT.2020 color space (also known as Rec. 2020), ensuring dazzling, true-to-life colors that leap off the screen. Brightness has also been significantly improved compared to previous models, with the L9Q boasting up to 5,000 lumens of brightness and a 5,000:1 contrast ratio, making it well-suited for both dark and well-lit viewing environments.

The laser projector comes with an ambient light rejection (ALR) screen, designed to enhance contrast and viewing angles even in brightly lit rooms. The ALR screen is available in sizes ranging from 100 inches to 150 inches, offering flexibility for various spaces and preferences. Alongside auto screen alignment, the projector also features manual keystone correction, enabling users to fine-tune the image for proportional accuracy and clarity.

Another standout feature is the L9Q’s audio system. Hisense claims it is the first laser TV equipped with a 6.2.2 surround sound system. With support for Dolby Atmos, DTS Virtual X, and eARC, it promises an immersive and dynamic audio experience to complement its stunning visuals.

Design-wise, the projector boasts a sleek black walnut décor panel with brushed metal accents, exuding modern elegance. It comes equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports, supports Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, and includes NEXTGEN TV (ATSC 3.0) compatibility for receiving broadcast channels. Running on Google TV, the L9Q integrates with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit for convenient smart home control.

While Hisense has yet to announce an official launch date or pricing details, premium laser TVs like the L9Q typically carry a hefty price tag, often starting in the several-thousand-dollar range. For home theater enthusiasts, however, the L9Q’s remarkable combination of advanced display technology, audio innovation, and user-friendly features might just make it worth the investment.
