A documentary about Daniel Radcliffe’s former stunt double, who became paralysed after an incident on the Harry Potter production, is being executive produced by the actor.
David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived, the coming-of-age tale of a gifted teenage gymnast who forged an unbreakable friendship with Harry Potter actor Radcliffe, is produced by Sky and HBO Documentary Films.
Holmes was working on Deathly Hallows: Part 1 when an explosion that was a premeditated stunt sent him tumbling to the ground, leaving him with a crippling spinal injury that turned his life upside down and left him paralysed from the chest down.
The movie reflects universal themes of overcoming adversity, growing up, and the ties that bind people together. It includes candid personal footage shot over the last ten years, behind-the-scenes footage from Holmes’ stunt work, scenes from his current life, and intimate interviews with him, Radcliffe, friends, family, and former crew.
The documentary, which will debut next month, is produced by Holmes and Amy Stares’ Ripple Productions and Simon and Jonathan Chinn’s Lightbox.
Along with Holmes, the film’s director Dan Hartley, Sue Latimer, Sarah Spahovic, Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller, Tina Nguyen, and Poppy Dixon, Radcliffe serves as executive producer. Simon Chinn, Jonathan Chinn, Vanessa Davies, and Stares are the producers.
