It’s David Letterman returning to the Ed Sullivan Theatre.
The Late Show on CBS Together On November 20, Stephen Colbert will have Letterman back on his previous television show. During the Thursday show’s recording, Colbert made the announcement.
Letterman was the original host of The Late Show, going from NBC to establish an 11:35 p.m. show on CBS in 1993. After 22 seasons, he left the programme in May 2015, and Colbert assumed hosting duties later that year. Monday’s Late Show will be Letterman’s first appearance on CBS since his retirement; earlier this year, he made a fleeting appearance on James Corden’s farewell Late Late Show. Letterman also presented at the 2021 Kennedy Centre Honours, which the network broadcast.
Nevertheless, Letterman hasn’t exactly shut himself off from society since leaving The Late Show. In addition to hosting the Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, he has recently appeared as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Late Night With Seth Meyers, among other late-night shows. The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming With David Letterman, a Disney+ documentary on the U2 singer and guitarist detailing their history as collaborators and the Irish culture that shaped them, featured him as well.
Letterman and Paul Shaffer, the former leader of the Late Show, also revealed recently that they will be selling off the Late Show With David Letterman marquee to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.
