Deadmau5 Sells Song Catalog for $55M to Launch New Music Venture

Electronic music legend Deadmau5 has secured a significant agreement with Create Music Group, selling his entire catalog of songs along with the rights to his Mau5trap label in a deal exceeding $55 million. This partnership, announced on Wednesday, encompasses the sound recordings and copyrights of over 4,000 tracks and sets the stage for a joint venture aimed at releasing new music from both Deadmau5 and artists under the Mau5trap label.

As part of this collaboration, Create Music Group (CMG) will roll out a comprehensive multi-platform strategy to enhance the Mau5trap legacy. This initiative will involve remastering and re-releasing essential tracks, creating exclusive content, and employing innovative marketing techniques to attract new listeners. The partnership will also broaden licensing opportunities, forge brand collaborations, and delve into emerging media such as gaming, virtual reality, and live streaming to optimize the revenue potential of the catalog.

Since the start of his career in 2005, Deadmau5—whose real name is Joel Zimmerman—has been a pivotal figure in the electronic music scene. Renowned for his iconic helmet and avant-garde sound, he has also been a strong advocate for artist rights and ownership. His Mau5trap label has significantly influenced the industry, having launched music from notable artists like Skrillex, Rezz, Noisia, Feed Me, and i_o.
