Janhvi Kapoor acknowledged that she is the daughter of Sridevi. In an interview with Agenda Aaj Tak, Janhvi talked about the legacy of her late mother and the actor, and how, in the past, she had thought that being her daughter gave her a “unfair advantage.” Janhvi stated that she refused to follow Sridevi’s advise and stopped her from visiting the sets of her first film, Dhadak. The actor called the decision to pass on her connection to the late Sridevi, “the best actor to come out of India,” “very silly.”
‘I used to feel as if I had an unfair advantage’
“I was so conscious that I wanted to stay aloof from my mother when I was doing my first film (Dhadak), because people were saying that I got my first film because I am Sridevi’s daughter,” the actor stated in Hindi. I left for another vacation, believing I wouldn’t need her assistance. I would act in the exact opposite way if she did. I used to tell her not to come help me on the sets. When I thought, “How many people have access to Sridevi Kapoor, who is the best actor to come out of India?” I used to feel as though I had an unfair advantage, a trump card. I used to think that if I follow her advise, the already unfair advantage will become much more unfair.
Janhvi says Sridevi ‘was dying to be on set’ with her
“I feel that was very silly,” Janhvi Kapoor continued. Since I am her daughter, I am unable to avoid it. I regret now realizing that she was desperate to be on the set with me, to support me as a mother, and that I took people too seriously. I also refused to let her. It’s one of my biggest regrets, in my opinion, because there are moments when I wish I could have just said, “Mumma, I have a shoot. Please come quickly.” Had she been present, perhaps. I believe I’ve finally realized it. These days, I take great pride in being my parents’ daughter. If people want to do a moral debate on whether Janhvi Kapoor being Sridevi’s daughter is right or wrong, you can’t, because that’s the truth.”
Janhvi made her acting debut in the commercially successful love film Dhadak in 2018. She will soon be featured in Devara and Mr. and Mrs. Mahi. The Hindi version of the 2016 Marathi film Sairat was directed by Shashank Khaitan and co-starred Ishaan Khatter.
