Domestic Wi-Fi service is introduced by Air India for the first time in Indian airline

Air India has reached a significant milestone in the country’s aviation sector by becoming the first Indian airline to offer in-flight Wi-Fi services on domestic routes. Announced on January 1, the service is now available on flights operated by the Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and select Airbus A321neo aircraft. To mark this launch, passengers can enjoy complimentary internet access during the introductory phase, beginning January 1, 2025.

This innovative step aims to elevate passenger experiences by ensuring connectivity during flights, catering to both leisure and business travelers. Passengers can browse the internet, access social media, send messages, or stay updated on work while airborne, making travel more enjoyable and productive.

“Connectivity is now a vital aspect of modern travel, enabling real-time interaction, added convenience, and increased productivity,” remarked Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Air India. “We are confident that our passengers will appreciate the chance to stay connected and take advantage of the improved Air India experience on board.”

The Wi-Fi service is compatible with Wi-Fi-enabled devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones running on iOS or Android. Passengers can connect multiple devices simultaneously once the flight reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet, ensuring uninterrupted entertainment or productivity throughout the journey.

This domestic rollout follows the success of Air India’s Wi-Fi services on international flights, available on Airbus A350, select Airbus A321neo, and Boeing B787-9 aircraft. Passengers traveling to destinations such as New York, London, Paris, and Singapore have already benefited from this connectivity. For domestic travelers, the complimentary service represents an added incentive, with plans to gradually extend it to additional aircraft in the fleet.

To access the Wi-Fi, passengers need to enable Wi-Fi on their device, connect to the “Air India Wi-Fi” network, and enter their PNR number and last name on the airline’s portal.

Air India’s initiative underscores its dedication to improving customer experience and embracing digital advancements in aviation. By becoming the first Indian airline to offer in-flight Wi-Fi on domestic routes, Air India is setting new standards in passenger convenience, paving the way for further innovation in the industry.
