Former Vikings WR Adam Thielen signs a three-year, $25 million agreement with the Panthers

A veteran is being added to the Carolina Panthers’ roster.

The Jaguars are marking previous Vikings wide beneficiary Adam Thielen to a three-year, $25 million arrangement with $10 million in the main year, NFL Organization Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero covered Sunday evening, per sources. The team made the announcement later.

After nine seasons with the team, Thielen was let go by Minnesota on March 10. Thielen joins Carolina hoping to add a veteran presence after the group exchanged the No. Along with WR D.J. Moore and future selections for the No. 9 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, one of the Bears’ picks in the draft.

Not ranked. Following Moore’s departure, Thielen’s route-running was required, ranking 84 in Gregg Rosenthal’s Top 101 free agents list.

32-year-old Thielen was the No. 2 role in Minnesota behind Justin Jefferson, making him the Panthers’ most seasoned wide receiver. Terrace Marshall Jr., Preston Williams, and Laviska Shenault Jr. are the current members of Carolina’s WR group.

A rookie signal-caller like C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, or Anthony Richardson could benefit from Carolina’s decision to sign Thielen. The Panthers signed quarterback Andy Dalton to a one-year contract to kick off free agency. This marked a significant addition to the team’s roster.

The former two-time Pro Bowl receiver had 70 receptions for 716 yards and six touchdowns in the previous season. 2018 was Thielen’s most recent season with 1,000 or more receiving yards.

After agreeing to terms with RB Miles Sanders and signing TE Hayden Hurst this past week, Carolina’s offseason has been busy.
