On Friday, September 22, the iPhone 15 series, which consists of the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, went on sale in India and other nations. On the first day of global sales, the Cupertino-based corporation made the iPhone 15 models created in India available there as well as in other countries. In the past, Apple shipped iPhones built in India after their official release date. The new versions might have been produced at Chennai-based Foxconn, an Apple supplier. At the “Wonderlust” event on September 12, the newest iPhone lineup was unveiled, and last Friday, September 15, they went on pre-order.
Earlier today, Apple began selling the iPhone 15 series, and on the first day of sales, buyers in India can purchase iPhones built in India alongside those made in China. Many users, including well-known people like R Madhavan, used X to post pictures of their iPhone 15 models built in India. The products were reportedly made in Chennai by Apple component maker Foxconn.
This is a turning point for the nation, according to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and information technology. “Indians may now instantly access the newest products. We expect that India would soon start exporting the iPhone 15 to other countries. On X, he congratulated “Team Apple.”
Apple has historically sent iPhone models made in India after their initial release date. Within 10 days of their global launch in 2022, the iPhone 14 versions were available for purchase. In view of the geopolitical tensions between the United States and China, the most recent action by Apple is seen as a step towards diversifying the production capacity in India.
Apple wants to make India a major base for the production of its mobile devices. According to reports, the corporation is currently producing 7% of its iPhone models in the nation. In April of this year, the Apple BKC shop in Mumbai and the Apple Saket store in Delhi opened its doors to the public.
For its standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models, Apple depends on Indian manufacturing. According to a recent report, Apple will reportedly produce the iPhone 15 Plus locally at Foxconn’s Chennai plant in the following quarter. In Chennai, Foxconn has a 40,000-person workforce. A corporation that builds iPhones is also putting $600 million (approximately Rs. 4,975 crore) into two projects in Karnataka that will produce chip-making machinery and iPhone case components. The iPhone 15 will also likely soon be put together by other Apple vendors including Pegatron and Wistron.
At its ‘Wonderlust’ event last week, Apple introduced the iPhone 15 series. The most recent phones have titanium construction and a USB Type-C port. They all ship pre-installed with Dynamic Island and iOS 17. The A16 Bionic processor powers the iPhone 15 models, while the A17 Pro processor powers the iPhone 15 Pro.
