Garmin and Google Partner on Advanced Smartphone SOS Feature

Garmin has announced that it will integrate its Satellite SOS emergency coordination service into Google’s Android smartphone ecosystem, starting with the latest Pixel 9 smartphone in the US.

Under the agreement, Pixel users in the US may be able to use the Pixel’s Satellite SOS feature1 to connect to the Garmin ResponseSM emergency coordination service when cellular and Wi-Fi coverage is unavailable. This integration opens up future opportunities for Garmin Response to offer its world-renowned service on additional Android devices.

How Satellite SOS on Google Pixel works

Pixel 9 Users in the US who are experiencing an emergency and are outside of cellular or Wi-Fi coverage can access Google Satellite SOS functionality and connect to Garmin Response, available on their watch. Our professionally trained emergency response coordinators will collect relevant information and begin coordinating the response across Garmin Response’s vast global network of law enforcement, first responders, search and rescue, embassies, the Coast Guard, etc. Garmin Response will maintain contact with you and your designated emergency contacts (if applicable) until the incident is resolved.

Proven emergency response capabilities

Garmin Response coordinates more than 17,000 SOS calls annually, providing emergency response coordination services in more than 150 countries, on every continent and across oceans.

A global database of local first responders enables response coordinators to quickly contact the most appropriate agency in time-sensitive situations and provide support in multiple languages.
