At the stage two event here on Saturday, the Indian team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur, and Aditi Swami won their third consecutive World Cup gold medal, defeating Turkey 232-226 in the lopsided compound women’s team final.
With a strong six-point lead, the top-ranked Indian compound women’s team defeated Turkey’s Hazal Burun, Ayse Bera Suzer, and Begum Yuva from the very first end and went on to win the gold without dropping a set.
This made Jyothi, Parneet, and world champion Aditi the trio of champions of three World Cup gold medals.
They defeated Italy in the World Cup’s opening stage last month in Shanghai, and they also took home the gold at the competition’s stage four in Paris at the conclusion of the previous year.
The second-seeded Indians in the compound women’s team final started with three X (arrow close to the center) and lost one point in each of the following three arrows to defeat their fifth-seeded opponents by one point in the opening round.
The Indians showed their total dominance in the subsequent round of six arrows, hitting five flawless 10s, two Xs, and one 9 to extend their lead by four points at the halfway point.
In the penultimate round, Turkey put up a strong battle, matching India’s score of 58 with four 10s and one X.
However, things did not really matter because going into the fourth and final end, the Indians led by four points.
They added another 58, studded with three 10s and one X, to complete the victory.
Later in the day, when Jyothi and Priyansh play the USA in the compound mixed team final, India will be aiming for a second gold medal of the championship.
In this World Cup, Prathamesh Fuge, who is one victory away from finishing on the podium in the individual competition for the first time, is also predicted to win a third medal in the compound category.
In an attempt to win his first solo World Cup title, Fuge, who defeated 2021 world champion and world No. 6 Nico Wiener of Austria in the quarterfinals, will take against world No. 7 James Lutz.
Fuge competed for the Shanghai men’s team that won the gold medal.
