Samsung was the first smartphone brand to launch a comprehensive suite of AI features called Galaxy AI. It debuted on the Galaxy S24 earlier this year and was introduced on older high-end Galaxy phones a few months later. Now, Google is introducing a competitor to Galaxy AI.
Google AI could debut on Pixel 9, ready to take on Galaxy AI
Pixel smartphones have had AI features for a few years now, but a new report from Android Authority reveals that Google is bringing some AI features to the Pixel 9. The AI will work under the Google AI brand.
This will include some existing features and some new ones. Two features, Circle to Search and Gemini, are already available on Pixel phones but are now listed under Google AI. The three all-new Google AI features include Add Me, Pixel Screenshots, and Studio.
The description of Add Me states that it will ensure that everyone is in the group photo so that no one is missed. It appears to be an improved version of the existing Best Take feature. It may stitch together various group photos to ensure that everyone in the group is in the picture.
Pixel Screenshots is a very interesting feature that is similar to Microsoft’s Recall feature announced last month. It analyzes screenshots stored on your phone to find useful information from them. If you enable this feature, your Pixel device will save relevant text and URLs in these screenshots. It also saves the app name and the date and time the screenshot was taken.
Fortunately, this feature respects user privacy (compared to Microsoft’s Recall feature in Windows 11) and does not automatically take screenshots of all user actions. It simply extracts information from screenshots taken manually and processes the data using on-device AI.
Google AI’s Studio feature appears to be an all-in-one app that uses AI to generate stickers, images, wallpapers, and more based on user text input.
More AI features coming to Galaxy AI
Samsung’s current high-end phones already have an AI wallpaper generator, generative AI-powered image editing, and Circle to Search. However, they lack similar features like Google AI’s “Add Me” and “Pixel Screenshots.”
Some reports suggest that Samsung is working on an AI image generator that can create better versions of drawings and sketches made with the S Pen. The feature is likely coming to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with One UI 6.1.1 next week.
