Brazil’s Independence Day, or Sete de Setembro (September Seventh) in Portuguese, is honoured in today’s Google Doodle.
Brazil declared its independence from Portugal on this day in 1822. It adopted its first constitution and was formally recognised as an independent nation two years later.
Brazil’s national flag, which is green, yellow, and blue, is flown proudly on its Independence Day. Each state of Brazil is represented with a star on the flag’s coat of arms. The deep blue denotes that Brazil is in the centre of the universe, while the yellow stands for prosperity and the green represents the nation’s lush woods. The same colours are used in today’s Doodle to honour and serve as a reminder of the ideals that Brazil holds dear.
Brazil, happy independence day!
