Extremely Unique Dynamic, a comedy playing at San Francisco’s Frameline Festival, is set for a North American release later this year.
The film’s North American rights have been acquired by distributor Strand Releasing, who are planning a theatrical release in late fall.
The American-made film tells the story of “two best friends who test the limits of their relationship while making a triple meta film.” The film premiered at the Sonoma International Film Festival in March, and later screened at Inside Out and CAAMFest.
The film is directed by Ivan Leung and Harrison Xu , and stars Leung (The Tender Bar), Xu (Nathan Lee’s Last Summer), Hudson Yang (Fresh Off the Boat), and Nathan Dean (Ginormous). The film’s cinematography is by Steven Shulgach, editing by Michael Scotti Jr., sound design by Nikola Simikic , and original music by Ian Mackley.
The film was produced by Leung and Xu through their company Heroic Impact. Noel Do-Murakami (coming soon to Skillhouse) served as producer. Michael Scott Jr. (Pen 15, Daisy Jones & the Six) served as associate producer. Katherine Dudas (Juniper) served as co-writer and co-director.
Rights deals were signed by Jon Gerans of Strand Releasing and Xu, who also served as producer, co-writer and co-director.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Harrison and Ivan, their debut film has a really kinetic energy that exudes the film’s title, they’re really a great filmmaking duo,” said Marcus Hu, of Strand Releasing.
“It is truly a dream to partner with the beloved Strand Releasing on our debut feature. Strand has always championed quality and diversity in filmmaking, catering to audiences interested in unique and thought-provoking cinema beyond Hollywood’s mainstream offerings. We had so much fun making this movie, and we hope that audiences feel that same sense of joy in watching our film,” said Xu and Leung.
