Hyundai’s three-row electric SUV will debut later this year and go on sale in 2025. The automaker could call it the “Ioniq 9,” which will be comparable in size to the brand’s Kia EV9 and serve as an electrified replacement for the Palisade.
Hyundai was caught testing a new electric vehicle on U.S. roads a few months ago, cleverly hiding its design. But all signs point to the SUV drawing heavily on styling inspiration from the 2021 Ioniq Seven concept, novel greenhouse and other elements. The company has done a great job of giving each Ioniq model a unique look, and the new SUV should follow suit.
The 2025 Ioniq 9 will be based on Hyundai’s E-GMP architecture and will likely share its powertrain and battery configuration with Kia. The base model EV9 will be rear-wheel drive with 215 horsepower, while the all-wheel drive model will be the top of the range with 379 horsepower and a larger battery. Hyundai may get these powertrains directly from Kia, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
The new Hyundai, which the company officially calls the “2025 Ioniq 3-row SUV (EV),” is expected to debut later this year, but it’s unclear when it will hit dealerships. It’s a 2025 model, and you can assume it will be available early next year, especially if it shares hardware with Kia.
