In celebration of her 52nd birthday, Tabu shares what it’s like to be happily single, including what she calls an ‘ideal relationship’

On Saturday, Tabu will celebrate her 52nd birthday. At 52 years old, Tabu still doesn’t need to be the male lead’s mother on the side. In Drishyam 2, she appeared as a rival who will stop at nothing to exact revenge for her son’s death. She also had a dual part in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, with two quite different characters.

In her personal life as well, Tabu is contentedly single and surrounded by a large group of close friends and family. When asked if she was single during an interview with Hindustan Times Brunch, Tabu stated clearly that she would have been unfair to herself if she had given up everything for a partner, including her acting profession and her desire to see the world.

Tabu on marriage and relationships

She had told HT Brunch, “Your happiness comes from many things unconnected with the status of your relationship,” showing that being single was not an awful thing. You can manage your loneliness on your own, but dealing with the wrong relationship could result in something worse than loneliness itself.”

Although her openness to love and marriage, Tabu’s circumstances never seemed to align. In the 2019 interview, she discussed partnerships and stated that she would not compromise on getting married. “A man-woman relationship is a complicated thing,” she stated. We develop a conception of love when we are young. After that, we develop, encounter new things, become self-sufficient, and outgrow some things. I wanted to travel the world on my own and was working. It would have been a disservice to myself and my skills if I had given up everything. When two people learn from each other simply by existing in each other’s life, that is the ideal connection. Relationships should free, not restrict. I am aware that I think somewhat differently. I have never considered the differences between men and women in a relationship, for example. Does your gender matter more than who you are as a person?

Tabu on being a mother

Once, Tabu disclosed that she had considered having an unmarried kid, but her rational, rational side had silenced her. If I want to have a child outside of marriage, nobody can stop me. However, I don’t want to purposefully rob the child of both parents right away,” she had stated to Filmfare.
