The Ivy League revealed on Tuesday, December 19 that it would hold a postseason tournament starting in 2024–2025. For the six Ivy League schools with Division 1 college wrestling programs—Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Penn, and Princeton—this tournament will serve as their NCAA qualifying round.
A postseason wrestling tournament has been added to the Ivy League, and it will debut in the 2024–2025 academic year.
“This is an exciting day for the Ivy League and, most importantly, for our league’s wrestling student-athletes and coaches,” said Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris. “This new postseason event will provide an unforgettable experience for our student-athletes and is a terrific way to further showcase the sustained national strength of Ivy League athletics.”
Three Ivies (Patrick Glory of Princeton, Vito Arujau and Yianni Diakomihalis of Cornell) were declared NCAA national champions last year, and five Ivies advanced to the semifinals. Ivies have won 50 wrestling All-American titles and been crowned national champions ten times in the past ten years.
The Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association is currently home to the six Ivy League universities that sponsor wrestling (EIWA). The Ivy League Wrestling Tournament, which will begin in 2024–2025, will determine which Ivy League schools receive automatic invitations to the NCAA Tournament.
“We want to acknowledge the EIWA membership and the long history of success that our programs have benefited from over the many decades of their affiliation,” said Harris.
The inaugural competition is slated to take place in Princeton’s Jadwin Gymnasium in March 2025. This tournament will be the 19th Ivy League postseason competition overall.
In the upcoming months, the location and scheduling of the Ivy League wrestling tournament for 2026 and after will be decided.
