ESPN was informed by a source that Jaden Rashada, a top quarterback prospect in the 2023 class, has been released from Florida’s national letter of intent and is now free to sign with another team.
After a reported $13 million name, image, and likeness package fell through, Rashada, who was the highest-rated signee in the Gators’ 2023 class in December, asked for his release.
Universities in Florida are forbidden by state law from offering or arranging no compensation at all. As a result, collectives—third parties—are used to make deals.
The Gator Collective’s four-year contract with Rashada was terminated, according to the Associated Press.
Rashada requested his release earlier in the week but never took any classes.
The No. Rashada moves up to number 27 in the ESPN 300 and becomes the 2023 class’ highest-ranked uncommitted prospect.
February 1 is National Signing Day.
Californian Rashada switched his commitment to Florida after initially being committed to Miami.
Numerous Power 5 programs offered him jobs. 247 Sports claims that he paid official visits to Florida, Miami, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and LSU.
Rashada’s departure has left the Gators short-staffed at quarterback.
Anthony Richardson, the starter from last year, has applied to the NFL draft. Jalen Kitna, his backup, was fired after being arrested for child pornography.
Graham Mertz, a Wisconsin transfer and former top recruit, was signed by Florida in December. He is expected to compete with Jack Miller III, a former Ohio State transfer.
On3 was the first to announce that Rashada’s release had been granted.
