High-end smartphones are using eSIM technology a lot, but the modern SIM standard makes it hard to easily transfer your eSIM to a new phone.
Now, Google has said that Android will have an eSIM transfer feature that will allow users to “quickly and securely” move their mobile plan to a new device.
Deutsche Telekom will be the first network to make use of this capability, according to Google. However, it is our hope that this eSIM transfer feature will be widely available on all carriers.
However, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Android getting an eSIM transfer feature. In January 2023, the sleuth Mishaal Rahman discovered references to this feature. Rahman also said that Google might be working on a way to let people change their real SIM cards into electronic SIM cards.
Since transferring eSIMs is still not as simple as using a real SIM card, this will be a welcome addition to smartphones.
