The coronation of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Shivrajyabhishek Sohala) is taking place today, June 6, 2022. The famous Maratha King, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is honored on this significant day. He ascended to the throne of the Maratha Empire on June 6, 1674.
This day celebrates the day when Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was crowned at Raigadh and began governing over the Maratha Empire. Rajyabhishek Sohala or Shivrajyabhishek Sohala are other names for this day.
Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born on February 19, 1630, in the Shivaneri Fort in Pune, and died on April 3, 1680, in Raigarh, after a protracted illness. Shivaji Maharaj is the son of Shahji and Jijabai. Shivaji Maharaj married eight wives, the first of whom was Saibai Nimbalkar, whom he married on May 14, 1640.
Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was named after the native Goddess Shivai, whom his mother Jijabai had pleaded with for a son. Before Shivaji, Jijabai had several other kids who did not live.
For six years, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ruled over the Maratha Empire. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was not anti-Muslim because many Muslims worked in his administrative services during his reign. Shivaji Maharaj was a devoted Hindu and a strong warrior who took pride in being the protector of his religion. He violated precedent by ordering the return of two of his relatives who had been forcibly converted to Islam. He was one of the rare monarchs who truly accepted religion differences.
