Max Expands Streaming Service to Seven Asian Territories in November

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that its streaming service Max will launch in seven Southeast Asian territories next month.

It will launch in Taiwan and Hong Kong, as well as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand from November 19.

Max will offer different plans. More precise pricing details will be announced in the coming weeks and may vary by country and provider. The mobile-only plans will be available in Indonesia and the Philippines, as well as through select providers in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.

Currently, WBD offers a temporary HBO Go streaming service in several East Asian regions. Max offers a greater selection of material and an improved technological platform.

Max is marketed by WBD as “a brand new streaming experience […] bringing fans blockbuster movies, groundbreaking series, iconic hits, engaging real-life content and family favorites through a strong product experience.” Max has debuted in North America and several other countries. At the end of September, it made its debut in Asia as a branded environment with a unique user interface inside the Japanese streaming service U-Next.

Max subscribers may personalize accounts for kids, curating content that is age-appropriate and featuring parental controls, and build up to five distinct, personalized profiles. They can also receive content recommendations based on their viewing habits.

The portal offers content from HBO, Cartoon Network, Max Originals, Discovery, TLC, AFN, Food Network, ID, and HGTV, among other entertainment brands. The DC Universe and “Harry Potter” are two examples of content franchises.

“JB Perrette, CEO and head of worldwide streaming & games at WBD, said that “Building on successful launches in the U.S., Latin America and Europe, Asia Pacific represents the next phase of Max’s globalization, making Max available now in over 72 markets with more to come in 2025.”

“Warner Bros. Discovery has long entertained fans across Asia Pacific with culture-defining content from powerhouse brands. For the first time, this programming will be available in a brand new streaming app for regional audiences, with Max combining incredible breadth and depth and a best in class viewing experience,” said James Gibbons, president at Warner Bros. Discovery, APAC.
