Meta today revealed that spatial videos shot with an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max would soon be playable on the Meta Quest VR headset. Support for the functionality will be added in the next v62 version.
For individuals without an Apple Vision Pro, stereoscopic videos taken with the iPhone 15 Pro models can be replayed on Meta’s device by uploading spatial videos to the Meta Quest headset using the Meta Quest mobile app.
The spatial movies that are posted to Meta Quest will be saved in the cloud and converted to the appropriate format for the device. You can choose immersive video content by choosing it from the Files menu. To give consumers an idea of what spatial videos look like, Meta Quest offers a number of demo videos.
For owners of the Apple Vision Pro headset, Apple provided the capability to record spatial videos. Spatial videos on Apple devices are exclusive to the $3,500 Vision Pro headset. Standard 2D videos are displayed in other products instead of spatial videos.
We are thrilled to announce support for spatial video playback on Meta Quest! If you have an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max, you can now upload spatial videos (a.k.a stereoscopic videos) to your Meta Quest headset using the Meta Quest mobile app–letting you relive the moment with surprising depth. With this new feature, you can experience your memories and media content like never before.
Given that the Meta Quest costs $500 less than the Vision Pro, some owners of the iPhone 15 Pro might find it easier to watch spatial videos on a less expensive device.
