WordPad, a simple text-editing tool, will no longer be supported by Microsoft as of today.
This past weekend, the tech giant revealed that WordPad will be removed, which means that it would no longer receive updates and would be removed from a future release of Windows. Although it has been listed as an optional feature since 2020, the software has been automatically installed on Windows systems since 1995. Users might, if they so choose, delete it as a result. Given the headlines this week, it appears that was a sign of things to come.
Microsoft added that it has two products, Microsoft Word and Windows NotePad, that can perform the tasks that the majority of users required WordPad to achieve.
The business stated, “WordPad is no longer being updated and will be removed in a future release of Windows.” “We recommend Microsoft Word for rich text documents like .doc and .rtf and Windows Notepad for plain text documents like .txt.”
Microsoft frequently stops some of classic, if a bit outdated, features. The business recently killed off its iconic tool MS Paint before sort of bringing it back, and this year it killed off the app for its voice-activated assistant Cortana.
