Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to introduce an exclusive VVIP terminal tailored for celebrities, industrialists, and politicians. Construction for this dedicated terminal is scheduled to begin in 2026, with completion targeted by 2030.
This new development means that prominent personalities like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif, Malaika Arora, and cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might soon be traveling through this separate facility, reducing their presence in the main terminal.
The airport operator plans to first inaugurate the commercial terminal, after which the next phase of expansion will focus on the VVIP terminal. This exclusive facility will be used by top-tier personalities as determined by the airport authorities.
A senior official revealed that the celebrity terminal will be constructed during the third phase of the airport’s development. Once completed, it will serve not only high-profile film personalities and sports stars but also cater to central and state government officials, governors, chief ministers, deputy chief ministers, and defense officials. Additionally, the terminal will act as a general aviation hub and accommodate the families of the airport promoters.
“The eligibility criteria for using this terminal will be decided later,” the official mentioned, speaking to Hindustan Times. Presently, the airport’s privileged list includes senior government officials, defense personnel, and key figures from the entertainment and sports industries.
Currently, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport lacks a dedicated VVIP terminal. The upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, operated by Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL)-a joint venture between Adani Airport Holding Limited (AAHL) and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO)-is poised to begin commercial operations after May 15.
Designed to ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport, the Navi Mumbai facility is a greenfield project with an initial capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually. In the first phase, the airport expects to accommodate 10–12 million passengers, including 9 million domestic and 3 million international travelers.
Furthermore, Terminal 2, which will have a capacity of 30 million passengers per year, is set to become operational by the end of 2028. To support this, a ‘Code E’ taxiway will be constructed, connecting runway 08L/26R to the VVIP, defense, and general aviation aprons. This taxiway will be designed to handle large aircraft, including Boeing 747s and Airbus A380s, with wingspans of 52 to 65 meters and heights up to 24 meters, ensuring seamless operations for even the largest planes.
