Netflix is set to produce a new version of the ‘One Piece’ anime, looking to leverage the success of the live-action blockbuster

An anime series based on “One Piece” is set to premiere once more.

Netflix has partnered with Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, Toei Animation Co., author Eiichiro Oda, and others to produce a new anime adaptation of Oda’s “One Piece” manga series. This comes after the tremendous success of the first season of Netflix’s live-action “One Piece” TV series. Yes, this project is entirely unrelated to the Toei Animation-produced “One Piece” anime series that has been airing since 1999.

The remake, titled “The One Piece,” will pick up where the original manga by Oda leaves off, following the “East Blue saga” of wannabe pirate king Monkey D. Luffy and his gang. This coincides with the start of both the Netflix live-action version and the current anime.

Production on Netflix’s “The One Piece” is currently underway at WIT Studio, the same organisation that produced “Spy x Family” and “Attack on Titan” (Seasons 1-3).

The collaborative team responsible for the new anime revealed the news from Jump Festa 2024 on Sunday. They said that the Netflix project will be “distinct from the TV anime series that has captivated audiences for over 25 years” and that it will “provide viewers with a fresh yet familiar experience, utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue saga.”

The highly regarded and widely viewed live-action “One Piece” series on Netflix has already been renewed for a second season. However, there is currently no timetable for when the second batch of episodes will go into production. The show launched during the summer. That show is produced by Tomorrow Studios in association with Oda and Shueisha.

The new anime series “Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation,” which follows Ryuma, a samurai ensnared in a world disrupted by an evil power – a dragon capable of wreaking catastrophic havoc upon the earth — will launch on Netflix in January 2024, helmed by Oda, the creator of “One Piece.”
