Kim Kardashian is going to be Netflix’s fifth wheel.
As already reported, the reality TV star turned aspiring actress will play the lead role in the group comedy film The Fifth Wheel, which debuted in a competitive Netflix market.
The screenplay is written by Paula Pell and Janine Brito; story specifics are being withheld; however, Kardashian will play the title role of “fifth wheel” in the cast of female ensemble members. (The remaining cast members have not yet been revealed.) Pell and Kardashian will produce as well.
Pell, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live, created the comedy film Sisters starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. She also acted in the Netflix original film Wine Country. NBC sitcom Mr. Mayor is among Brito’s credits; she is married to Pell. On the comedy Girls5Eva, which recently made the transition from Peacock to Netflix following two seasons, the pair plays relationships.
Kardashian has voiced characters in animated films including as the PAW Patrol movie and its follow-up, The Mighty Movie. She is presently starring in the most recent season of American Horror Story, Delicate.
A number of studios, including those considering a theatrical release, pursued The Fifth Wheel, and it has now become one of the first major projects to be signed by a studio after the protracted SAG strike. The streamer acquired a number of completed projects during the walkout, including Richard Linklater’s Hit Man (featuring Glen Powell from Top Gun) and Anna Kendrick’s feature film debut, Woman of the Hour, which was screened at the Toronto Film Festival.
