On June 24th, Peacock will release Downton Abbey: A New Era on its streaming service. Following its theatrical premiere on May 20th, the picture will be available to stream exclusively on the platform.
New Era is the follow-up to both the 2019 Downton Abbey film (which Peacock also owns the streaming rights to) and the original series. It follows the Crawleys and their workers when one member of the family travels to a villa in France, while the others welcome a film crew to the estate. You’ll probably have a wonderful time if you like Singing in the Rain.
Peacock also added a 24/7 channel that will only air seasons 1 through 6 nonstop to celebrate the film’s release (and to assist fans catch up before the film’s arrival). While you may not want to miss a single second and watch on-demand, this method is useful if you just want something on in the background or want to watch with friends who are far away. It’s also useful if you’re suffering from choice fatigue and want to watch a show but don’t want to pick a specific episode. This isn’t the first time a show has been given the 24-hour treatment. The Office also has a channel that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
You can also watch the show on demand, like you do with The Office, as the option debuted with Downton Abbey in 2020. Amazon Prime also has the rights to stream the series right now, but Downton Abbey left Netflix last month after only a year on the service, much to the dismay of many fans.
Last year, the NBC-owned Peacock said that starting in 2022, it would begin streaming NBCUniversal films 45 days after they hit theatres. The 355 (which has already found its way to the platform) and the upcoming Halloween Ends are among the titles offered. Some of Universal’s big-name films aren’t included in this deal, with Jurassic World: Dominion set to launch on Peacock in October rather than January.
